A Calvinistic Limerick

Though I am not a Methodist, I do find that much of my theology aligns with theirs, especially when it comes to the whole predestination issue. Indeed, I fall into the Arminian camp—I am a synergist. Actually, I am probably too Arminian for some people. In fact, I think that some of the work people like Clark Pinnock and others are doing (Open Theism) is great; though there are still some tough questions that need answering. Anyways, I say all of that to say that while I was reading recently I came across something rather funny. It is a limerick, which comes from that period in Church history (the 1500’s) when the supralapsarians (the “selectionists”) were arguing heatedly against the infralapsarians (the “electionists”). So, enjoy. It says this:

Franciscus Gomarus was a supralapsarius;
He actually gave Adam an excuse.
God had decreed, foreordained Adam’s deed,
God had precooked Adam’s goose!
