Steph Was Right (Well...Maybe)

A few days ago, I wrote a post that dealt with Christian contestants on reality game shows like Survivor. In that post, I asked if it was wrong--even if this was a "game" show--for Christians to use lying and deceit to win. I got some pretty good replies but Steph (all I know about her is that she lives across the pond somewhere) was on to something when she said that these reality shows tend to bring out the ugliest in people.

Last night on The Apprentice, this was entirely the case. The Brit, Piers Morgan, and the movie mob boss, Vincent Pastore, went head-to-head. It was sheer cutthroat. In the mix of it all was acclaimed evangelist Stephen Baldwin. Actually, in one scene Baldwin was shown asking Morgan if he'd accept Christ. Morgan replied by saying that he was a Roman Catholic who was educated by a group of nuns. Sadly, Baldwin (who did act quite pious at times but rather impious at other times!) and Morgan went after one another. Even more sadly, next week's episode shows these avowed Christians totally against one another. As far as we know, these are the only two Christians on the show and they can't even unite. Anyways, this is quite unfortunate!

It still raises questions for me, though, about what is gameplay and what is not. Clearly, in a game, you want to beat your competitors. Sometimes that involves trickery (no matter what game it is!!!) and strategy. This, I do not think is wrong. However, I must say, I do have scruples about these two Christians fighting the ways that they are; it is quite a shame.

  1. I'm not such a mystery - I'm a Kiwi, I'm doing the D (in gospel origins) with Nottingham in the UK and I swim every day, currently (coincidentally) at a beach we call Pandora Pond. Before taking up swimming I was a runner. So I'm not big on games involving lies, spite and deception. I'm not fussed on the competitive element. And I have an international globe trotting Kiwi cat called Delilah who travels the world with me.

I've seen The Apprentice. It is a complete waste of time. More lies, spite and deception.

But it is "anyway" not "anyways" and verbs come after the noun!:)

  5. Well, technically, they're grown all over the U.S. For instance, they're grown all over Cali. However, I know that NZ introduced them to the U.S. so, I figured that NZ was where you were referring to.

  6. are you talking about the bird (Kiwi) or the fruit (which is called Kiwi Fruit, not Kiwi)? The rare and flightless birds are native and endangered. We go by the bird not the fruit which we developed from Chinese gooseberries.

  7. Ahh,
I was talking about the fruit but I read about the bird later...I have a knack for being geographically inept. But the riddle was solved and at least I got the location right: NZ.

  8. Help! Imagine being named after a mushy green fruit, furry outside and gritty seeds inside! I would never have thought of that. No, we're little brown flightless birds. Actually, we do seem to fly alot, and many of us are very green - or at least we try to be. But we're definitely not mushy. We're hardy, independent ... and opinionated (like bloggers)
