What's Your Favorite "Mark" Verse/Story?

Just wondering...

  1. Mark 14:52 "He fled naked, leaving his garment behind."

    Profound.

Actually, I like 16:6-8: “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’ ”

Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.

"But go, tell his disciples and Peter...They said nothing to anyone"

I find that deeply profound, problematic, and humorous.

  2. 14.52 is fascinating; morton smith speaks of the supposed homosexualness of that statement w/his secret mk. very humorous.

as for the others, you've got a point there!

I'm liking mk. 12 these days, the whole chapter is very fascinating to me.

  3. I taught through Mark a couple of years ago. As we were going through it, I kept pointing out a particular "character" in the Gospel. Now, I tell everyone that my favorite "character" in Mark is the boat.

  4. We had a conversation about the boat in our class. Makes one wonder if this was a play what kind of props they might have had.

I like the part where the boat walks on the water to show up Peter.

  5. Alan,

    quite funny.

    Scott,

    Interesting question.

I wonder what the name of the boat was? I wonder who named it?

    Mt: After Taxes
    Mk: Immediately
JC: Buoy, oh buoy (these stupid disciples)
    Ptr: The Crow

    stupid, i know...whatever
